Eduard Bohtlink the maker of the famous Markies gave a lecture on Active Architecture. The architecture office SLA gave a triple lecture within the triple lecture about their work. Willem Velthoven, founder of Mediamatic introduced Mediamatic Travel and the Amsterdam Biennale to the guests of the island. The discussion with all the guests continued till late. Thanks!

Today Edgar Renato Perotti organized an exhibition on water related objects and projects. Especially for the Gecekondu he created an amazing cristal clear floating swimmingpool next to the island. Today the Gecekondu was extended by a friendly parasite. The work of Dirk Overduin, gathered on 'ENJOYPUBLICSPACE.NL', aims to stimulate personal use of public space. Dirk presented several project to the Gecekondu audience. Some of his projects offer the user an opportunity to enjoy the public space through designs that you can rent, buy or make yourself. Other projects suggest alternative ways of using public space by on-off demonstrations, actions which take place only once and are documented to spread the idea. www.enjoypublicspace.nl

The Gecekondu is a Chamber of Secrets in the middle of town. Can it be enhanced? Can you put a spell on it? To get inspired the kids first watched a secret film. Afterwards they bewitched the little house and enjoyed a lot of scary sweets!!

This morning we noticed a break in at the Gecekondu... and discovered an unregistered guest! We decided to let him have his sleep and leave a note for him to come and have a coffee later on... but no luck.
09/07/05 green surprise!
The first Gecekondu guests, Dylan and Stephen, returned back to NY. They left a great surprise at the Gecekondu: A herb garden! beautiful bag planters, filled with medicinal herbs and plants! They named the garden 'snippendaaltuin' (hoping that it would mean 'kruidentuin' -herb garden- in Dutch... actually snippendaal is much nicer!)' All plants have been found at The Vondelpark, and at grassy spots in the neighborhood. The highly educational botanic list that Stephen drew in the guestbook, will be posted online later on. Thank you!
